The Brussels Sprouts might kill you!

If you have a mechanical heart and take anticoagulants, that is.

If you want a delicious recipe for Brussels sprouts, take this shaved Brussels sprouts recipe from Wegmans, triple the bacon (I don’t use cubed pancetta, I just use a pair of scissors to chop up the sliced stuff as I cook it) and use a balsamic vinaigrette salad dressing instead of the expensive spritzer. I shave whole Brussels sprouts myself (cut them lengthwise from top to bottom, not like an onion), since they don’t always carry the pre-shaved variety.

Here’s a cut-and-paste of the ingredients and directions from the website, in case someday the link doesn’t work:

1 tsp Wegmans Pure Olive Oil
1/2 of a 4 oz pkg all 4 oz, 6oz if you have it Italian Classics Diced Pancetta (Deli Dept)
1/4 cup Food You Feel Good About Peeled Shallots, chopped
1 pkg (14 oz) Food You Feel Good About Shaved Brussels Sprouts
1/4 cup Wegmans Basting Oil
Salt and pepper to taste
2 Tbsp Wegmans Apple Vinegar Spritzer (or a balsamic vinaigrette)

Directions:

  1. Add olive oil and pancetta to large skillet; cook on MEDIUM about 5 min, until pancetta begins to render fat but is not browned.
  2. Add shallots, Brussels sprouts, and basting oil. Season with salt and pepper. Cook, stirring, on MEDIUM, 8-10 min, until vegetables are nearly softened but not browned. Remove from heat.
  3. Add apple vinegar spritzer and toss.
